Andrew Southerton
(Lead Pastor)

Andrew and his family moved to Wellington in 2014 with the aim of teaching the Bible, loving people and not being weird. In that time God has gathered together the great people at City on a Hill Evangelical Church. He is married to Adele and they have three kids, a friendly dog Matilda and an aloof cat Willow. Andrew loves to teach the Bible, ride his bike with the Wellington wind, and keep things uncomplicated. He did his theological studies at Moore Theological College and he is responsible for leading the team at City on a Hill and the preaching on Sundays.

Paul Shoemark
(Pastor responsible for Mission & Maturity )

Paul joined the staff team in 2018 when he and his family moved to Wellington with a passion to see the lost saved. He is married to Mel and they have two bubbly daughters. When Paul is not working you might find him running (very quickly!) up one of Wellington's mountain trails. Paul leads Mission and Maturity at City on a Hill as well as overseeing our children’s ministry. He studied at Sydney Missionary Bible College and before that he worked as a primary school teacher.

Claire Williams
(Pastor responsible for Magnification)

In January 2020 Claire and her family (Andy and their two boys) joined the team for her to lead our church in our expressions of love and awe of God (what we call magnification). She’s the mastermind behind our music and Sunday gatherings. When Claire isn’t doing this you might find her writing songs or drinking tea in the cute cafes of Wellington. Claire studied at Moore Theological College and her songs have been published by Emu Music.

Andy Williams
(Pastor responsible for Membership)

Andy is married to Claire and they have two boys and the live in and love the Hutt Valley. He is responsible for Membership which seeks for our church to be a place that welcomes people into a loving community of Jesus’ followers. Andy also works part time as a doctor at Wellington Hospital and enjoys fishing from his kayak in Wellington harbour. He studied at Moore Theological College and occasionally writes about the intersection of christian faith and medicine.

Adele Southerton
(Responsible for Care)

Adele has been a part of City on a Hill since 2014 when she and her husband Andrew moved to Wellington to plant the church. Adele loves to train and equip people to be wholehearted followers of Jesus who love, care and serve those around them. She has studied at Moore Theological College and more recently has been working towards qualifications in Biblical Counselling through CCEF. Adele loves to create things using food, wool or fabric.
