What is a Christian?
A Christian is someone who has put their trust in Jesus’ death to pay for their sins, and is now seeking to live with Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
In Mark’s account of Jesus’ life, we read:
Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1:14-16
The good news of Jesus is that God’s King has come. He has come to pay the price for our rebellion from God, and now invites us into relationship with Him. This relationship will last beyond death into eternal life.
All you need to do is Repent and Believe this good news.
To Repent: is to turn from living life your own way and to say I want to live life God’s way instead. It’s to turn from running away from God and to start seeking God in his word.
To Believe: is to trust in Jesus’ death and resurrection for your sin. In the words of the apostle Paul - “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom 10:9)
So, do you want to become a Christian?
Here is a prayer you could pray right now to become a Christian:
Heavenly Father I am sorry for living life my way and rejecting you as the Creator and Giver of my life. Please forgive me.
I thank you for Jesus and his life given for me on the cross to pay for my rebellion from you. I thank you and trust in his life given for me. I thank you that he is now alive and that by trusting in him I will also live with him forever.
Help me Father each day to live a life of thanks and gratitude to Jesus. Help me to serve and honour him with every area of my life. Amen.
If you have prayed this prayer with sincerity of heart, and genuine trust in Jesus, there is great celebration and rejoicing in heaven as you have come home to the loving embrace of your Heavenly Father.
