Many of you will already know that we are currently looking to add another pastor to our staff team. We are asking God to provide the right person for the role of leading Hutt Church and overseeing Membership across all of City on a Hill.
Over the past few years, God has been very kind to us. More people are joining us, our congregations are growing, new people are coming to faith in Jesus, others are taking steps forward in faith, and there are more opportunities for ministry than we can currently pursue. The growth of Hutt Church in particular, alongside the continuing ministry of City and Night, has made it increasingly clear that we need to grow our ministry team for the years ahead.
But adding another pastor is also a significant decision.
We are not simply filling a vacancy. We are asking who might help shape the life, culture and ministry of City on a Hill for many years to come. Whoever joins us will preach and teach God’s word, disciple people, develop leaders, care for our church family, and work alongside our existing staff as we seek to multiply and mature wholehearted followers of Jesus together.
That means we want to make this decision carefully.
Please pray for the candidates. Ask that God would give them wisdom and clarity about whether City on a Hill is the right place for them and their families.
Please pray for our staff and leaders. Pray that we would have wisdom to recognise not only the right gifts and experience, but the right character, theological convictions and fit for our team. A strong and functional staff team matters enormously to a healthy and growing church. We want to continue to build a team in which people can serve joyfully, complement one another’s strengths, disagree well, carry responsibility together and remain in ministry for the long haul.
Please also pray for our finances. Employing another pastor is a serious and substantial ongoing commitment. We are thankful for God’s generous provision through the faithful giving of our church, and we want to be both courageous about the opportunities before us and wise stewards of what God has entrusted to us.
And above all, please pray for the future of our church.
There are moments in the life of a church when decisions made now have consequences for many years. Adding staff is definitely one of them. We don’t want simply to become a larger church; we want to become an increasingly healthy, mature and mission-minded church. We want to be able to make the most of the opportunities God gives us to multiply and mature wholehearted followers of Jesus.
There is much to be hopeful about. God has already been extraordinarily kind to us, and the opportunities before us are exciting. Please join us in asking him to provide the right person, at the right time, and to use this next season for the good of his church and the glory of Jesus.
