‘An Attitude of Gratitude’

This is a phrase I’ve started using with my family. When things don’t go our way and we’re tempted to complain or get grumpy, we remind each other to choose an attitude of gratitude, to thank God instead for the many ways he provides, cares for, sustains, and remains faithful to us.

Throughout the Bible, God’s people are repeatedly called to give thanks:
“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”
(Psalm 9:1)

Giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves (Colossians 1:12-13)

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)

So let me ask you - what are you thankful to God for right now?

Is it the gift of life in Christ?
Another year to serve him in your work?
Friends and family?
The beauty God has given us here in Wellington?
Or even that cup of coffee or tea this morning?

Whatever it is - give thanks to the Lord.

One thing I’m especially thankful to God for is our church whānau. Not only are we saved by the blood of Jesus, but saved into his family. The longer I follow Christ, the more I see how precious it is to do life with other believers, to be cared for, challenged, encouraged, and built up together. I know I couldn’t keep going on my own.

If you’re thankful for our church family, or if you’d love a deeper connection, our Community Groups are a great place to start. They’re spaces for us as a whānau to gather, grow, and care for one another. If you want to grow this year in your love for Jesus and your thankfulness to him, register for a Community Group here today.

Grace and peace,
Paul
