In the final eNews for 2024 I'd like to give a big shout out to our staff team who serve us so faithfully and selflessly at City on a Hill.
The past 12 months have been especially challenging for our team as they've dealt with various griefs and difficulties. Some of these you might be aware of but many of them have been carried quietly and privately as has been appropriate.
During this time it has been a privilege to witness them continue to remain faithful to Jesus, delight in serving his people and seek to grow as God's children through these difficulties.
Over this last week we have had a few team and family Christmas celebrations. During these gatherings we have been able to reflect on God's faithfulness and celebrate God's goodness even during hard and busy times. God has continued to bless and grow our church and team even when we might not be feeling at the top of our game!
It has reminded me of Peter's words to the Christians who were tempted to give up following Jesus,
'Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. (1 Peter 4:12-13)
As we faithfully endure, continuing to seek first God's kingdom, Peter says there is a sense in which that ought not be unexpected as we participate in the sufferings of Christ. Jesus knows what we're going through and what it is like. But we also will be overjoyed in his glory. Our sufferings and trials are temporary, used to grow our character and display God's faithfulness.
So will you join me in thanking God for our staff team? Thanking him for sustaining and growing our team over the last 12 months and praying that we might all continue to follow Jesus, even through grief and suffering? Also please be praying for a less eventful 2025 as we continue to multiply and mature wholehearted followers of Jesus!
Grace & peace,
Andrew
P.S. There are also a few staff movements I like to let you know about:
Adele has been part of the team overseeing pastoral care alongside Andy. She is finishing up at the end of the year and has taken a position as a Christian Studies & Food Tech teacher at Wellington Hill Christian College.
Lia is transitioning from an apprentice into the new role of Ministry Administrator in 2025. During her time as an apprentice Lia had demonstrated her giftedness at organisation and is keen to help our team become more effective by being better planned and organise!
