Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Every day Jesus sends us into the harvest fields of our workplaces, streets, and families. God has sovereignly placed us in the lives of the very people he is drawing to himself. Often, as we pray for workers, we are the answer. What a joy and privilege to be Christ’s ambassadors and workers, scattering the seed of his word and watching him transform lives.
This week, a team from church spent time in the harvest field at Victoria University, giving away free coffee and hot chocolate and speaking with students about life, study, and Jesus. We connected meaningfully with 120 students. Of those, 93 were interested in finding out more about Jesus, and many were keen to find a church. The harvest truly is ripe.
One first-year student from Queenstown told us he’s recently felt drawn to Jesus, despite feeling cynical about church. We shared what City on a Hill is like, encouraged him to keep seeking Jesus, and invited him along.
Studies globally show a growing interest in faith among 18–24-year-olds, often driven by a longing for authenticity, meaning, belonging, and relief from anxiety. We’re seeing this first-hand at Night Church and at Uni this week. Young people are coming and asking about Jesus. The question is: are we ready to welcome them and point them to him?
Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest…” (Matthew 11:28–29).
Will you join me in praying for the students of Wellington, that they would come to know Jesus and find his rest? And will you be ready to welcome them this week? If you’re free, come along to our Student Welcome Party, 5pm at 39 Webb Street today.
Grace and peace,
Paul
