“Taste and See that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:8)
I wonder if you ever noticed just how much food plays a big part in the story of the bible.
• The first words of God to humans are an invitation to eat (Gen 2:16) • The first disaster in the Bible is over forbidden food (Gen 3:6) • Before he died, Jesus’ shared a last-meal with his disciples (Matt 26:20) • And one picture of the Bible’s hope for the future is of a massive, joyful feast! (Matt 22:1)
Meals and food together with others are often how relationships are fostered and grow. I know for myself, some of my favourite times are when I am sitting down over a meal with friends and family.
And God from the beginning has desired a relationship with us. He longs to dwell with us and he longs for us to know and experience His goodness to us.
And coming up over the month of November is an opportunity to bring friends, family and work colleagues along to Taste and See the goodness of our God. Over 4 Tuesday evenings in November we’re going to be hosting 4 ‘Taste and See’ dinners which explore the big questions of life, Jesus and humanity’s deepest need.
Each meal is designed to illustrate a part of the grand narrative of the bible’s storyline.
The first meal is a vegetarian feast which explores the wonder and beauty of God’s good design in Creation.
The second meal is a greasy fast food dinner where we explore what’s gone wrong with our world and why there is so much that is broken in our world today
The third meal is a Middle Eastern Passover meal that celebrates God’s great rescue of humanity through Jesus,
The final meal is an international banquet in celebration of the new life and hope that is offered to all nations by Jesus.
I am so excited to be part of the team helping put these dinners together and for the opportunity to enjoy food and meaningful conversations about the life and hope Jesus offers. If you’d be interested in helping with cooking for any these nights, helping set up or pack up the space or even part of the team washing the dishes. Please let me know as these nights really require a great team to put them on.
But also, who could you bring along to Taste and See just how great our God is?
Psalm 34:8 says:
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Let’s be praying and bringing people along to these meals so that more people can come home to the loving arms of God. The God who longs to pour his love and goodness on them.
Grace and Peace,
Paul
