What does trust in God look like?
When Jesus wanted to show what trusting God looks like, he pointed to children.
In Mark 10:13-15 we read:
People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. (Mark 10:13-15)
Do you see what trust in God looks like?
It’s to come to God like a little child. Childlike trust is daily dependence and reliance on God, coming to Him as our loving Father, knowing we need Him for salvation, for life and everything.
I see this posture often in the kids at church and my own kids at home. Recently, before a Sunday service, I was frustrated because I couldn’t open the box with the coffee machine. A child saw me and simply said, “Why don’t we pray about it?” After praying they added, “I wonder what God is teaching us through this?”
This instinctive turning to God stopped me in my tracks. That’s what trust looks like.
And it’s this kind of dependence on God we should never grow out of even as we get older.
And this is why the children in our church whanau can be such an encouragement to each of us. We have over 90 kids and youth across church all seeking to grow in Christ each week, but currently we don’t have enough leaders in our City or Hutt creche, kids and youth programs.
There’s a real opportunity here: to serve, to invest in these young disciples, and to be strengthened in your own faith as you see their trust in God first-hand.
So, let me ask you - do you want to grow in your trust of God?
Why don’t you join a team of leaders and serve the kids of our church as they model to us what it means to be a child dependent on God.
If you’re interested in serving and growing, please get in touch with me.
Grace and Peace,
Paul
