I still remember my first real job interview like it was yesterday.

It was for a graduate accountant role with a pay TV company. I wanted to make a good impression…

So, I dressed up in my Dad’s suit—it was a size too big. I polished my old school shoes. I found the only tie I owned that didn’t have cartoon characters on it.

And I was prepared. Well, I thought I was…

I went into the interview feeling confident. But then came that question. You know the one that lurks in every job interview like a trap.

The interviewer leans back in her chair and says, “So Andrew… what would you say is your greatest weakness?”

In that moment - poof! - all my preparation evaporated. My mind went completely blank. I wasn’t prepared for this… Which is funny, because they’ve been asking that question since God interviewed Adam for the gardener role.

But there I was, doing my best goldfish impression - mouth opening and closing, no sound coming out.

Why? Because we don’t like talking about weakness. We want to look like we’ve got it together. To be competent, confident, capable.

And yet… the Bible tells us that God works through our weaknesses. In 2 Corinthians 4, Paul says, “We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

Our weakness isn’t a liability in God’s kingdom - it’s the stage on which his power is displayed. When we admit we are fragile, limited, or even failing, we become living proof that any strength, endurance, or fruit in our lives is God’s doing.

This week, maybe you feel like a cracked jar of clay. Take heart - Your weakness is not the end of the story. God uses weak people like you and me so the glory of his gospel can shine into the darkness.

Grace & peace,
Andrew
