How have you gone this week at grasping the greatness of Jesus? How have you been using the gifts he gives us to be growing more like him?

For myself I have been digging into the Bible and reading the Book of Numbers. Honestly, at times it’s been hard going reading the long lists of genealogies. But I have persevered and one thing has stood out to me over and over again. God continues to provide for and care for his people. Despite all their whinging and grumbling against Him, God still loves them and meets their every need.

God is a gracious god who cares for us and wants what’s best for us, even when we can’t see it ourselves. That’s what God has been reminding me and teaching me this week.

And our gracious provider, God, He is the one who will work in us to grow us up in Christ. The work might not be fast, it might not be drastic change but as we open His word, as we hear His voice and as we depend on Him in prayer our lives will be more attuned to live for Him.

But more than just living for Him we will be growing in knowing Him.

I read a helpful article digging into this idea titled, Growth is not the Goal. A quote from the article said,

"When all is said and done, our hope is not to be a skilled Bible-reader, practiced pray-er, faithful churchman, or visibly mature Christian, but to be the one who “understands and knows me, that I am the Lord” (Jeremiah 9:24). And so our heartbeat in the habits we develop for hearing every word, speaking every prayer, and participating in every act of fellowship is Hosea 6:3: “Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord.” Knowing and enjoying Jesus is the final end of hearing his voice, having his ear, and belonging to his body."

Let me encourage you to desire to know Jesus as hear his voice and spend time with him.
