Keeping on going
As we've descended into lockdown there are only two groups that I am a part of that have committed to continuing to meet together even when we physically can't gather.
Both groups speak of 'keeping each other accountable', 'motivating one another to keep going' and 'not letting something important get put on the back burner'. And both groups seem to be going to great lengths to stay in touch and keep the community going.
I wonder if you can guess the groups?
They're the gym and the church.
I think the motivation for the gym to keep the community is alive is largely financial. They don't want to lose all their valuable members! I think there is also the reality that fitness is a 'use it or lose it' skill.
As the people of God, we get this. We know that our faith in Jesus is to be 'exercised' through the regular meeting with God's people, by hearing God speak through his word, through encouraging others and by leaning on God in prayer. When we 'go it alone' we turn our back on many of the blessing God has given us to continue on trusting in Jesus.
So tomorrow as we gather virtually, we won't be doing squats or push-ups or planks but we will be doing this,
"train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe. 1 Tim 4:7-9
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow for some training in godliness as we gather as God's people.
Grace & peace,
Andrew
