The situation in Gaza is devastating.

For some time, I’ve felt the need to write something about the unfolding tragedy in the region. The reason I haven’t spoken or written about it until now is that I haven’t felt confident I could do justice to the complexity of the issues—or the depth of feeling they provoke.

But I’ve come to realise, through the thoughtful prodding of brothers and sisters, that silence is not a faithful response.

I have written my thoughts here and I encourage you to take some time to read them and pray.

These are not the final word on the conflict. But I hope it will help us, as a community of God’s people, to respond with wisdom, humility, and compassion—and above all, with prayer—for those caught in the crisis.

With that in mind, here are some prayers we can make our own as we plead with God to bring peace to this troubled part of the world.

Prayers for Gaza and the Middle East

Dear God, we cry out to you on behalf of those seriously affected by the conflict in Gaza and the Middle East. Our hearts break at the devastation and suffering we see, and we know it breaks yours too. Stretch out your mighty hand to bring a lasting peace and an end to all violence. Comfort the traumatised, heal the injured, provide for the displaced, and be their hope, healer, and refuge.

Father, comfort those who have lost loved ones. Restore hostages and prisoners to their families. Let them know your loving presence near to them.

Lord God, all power in heaven and earth belongs to you. We commit the current conflicts in the Middle East into your hands. Bring resolution that allows Israelis, Palestinians, Lebanese, and Iranians to live in lasting peace. In your mercy, shorten this time of suffering.

Father, your Word says, “Christ Jesus… is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility” (Eph 2:13–14). We believe Jesus’ followers are already united in him. Please make that spiritual unity a visible reality among Palestinian Christians and Messianic Jews. Show us that what is impossible with man is possible with you.

Heavenly Father, your Word warns us that the tongue can be a fire. May the global conversation about Israel and Palestine be shaped by truth, not misinformation. Let truth prevail over falsehood.

Lord, let the gospel take root and flourish across Israel and Palestine. Raise up workers for this harvest field. Give your people boldness to share the good news of Jesus in word and deed.

Grace and peace,
Andrew
