As 2021 comes to a close, how would you rate it?
For most, it has been pretty messy as we've continued to deal with COVID challenges and uncertainty. For some, it has been a great year of blessing and growth from the Lord. For others it has been difficult, filled with disappointments and grief.
New life at Christmas!
With Carols and the Wreath Workshop we have had the chance to share the good news of Jesus with about 50 people who don't belong to City on a Hill. Some of those guests have never been to church before and never heard what the Bible says about the real joy and lasting hope we have in Jesus. […]
This week I received a gentle and gracious reminder that I (and we as a whole church) could be doing more to celebrate God's work and encourage one another. We could take more time to reflect on and rejoice at what God is doing amongst us and encourage those who serve diligently for the sake of Christ amongst us.
Sometimes my hesitance is cultural. It's not really what we do to make a big song and dance about people or about good things that are happening. Whether it be our tall poppy syndrome or some sort of emotionally conservative outlook, the result is I (and many of us) chose to say nothing rather than sharing an encouraging or joyful word. […]

Obviously, Christmas is a celebration of what God has done in sending his Son for us, to live amongst us and rescue us from our sin. The end of the year is also a time to rejoice in the things that God has done in and through our church over the past twelve months. […]
