One of the most compelling pictures of the Church in the New Testament is that of a body. Paul writes this to the Corinthians,
"Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many." 1 Corinthians 12:12-14
There is so much that can be gleaned from this image but the one thing I want to point out is that as a body,we work togetherfor the maturity and growth of the body. We work together as a single body (or team), each using our different roles and gifts to serve the body of God's people and glorify God.
Our staff team has been working hard over the Summer to see that we are more effective as we serve together as Christ's body. This began with some external input into how our serving is structured and it has led to us adopting a 'Ministry Teams' model across all of City on a Hill.
We've been reorganising our structures to move away from rosters (you just turn up to do a job) and towards teams (a group of people working together to achieve an outcome). We feel that Ministry Teams are a much better reflection of God's picture for his church as we serve together to multiply and mature followers of Jesus.
Part of this process has been the raising up of people to be Ministry Team Leaders who will be responsible for their little team serving well together to achieve a shared vision. They've got their first meeting/training this Tuesday.
Please be praying for our Ministry Team Leaders (Band, AV, Hospo, Welcoming, Kids, Youth, Setup & Packup). Pray that they will lead well, disciple their groups and that they will serve together for the glory of Christ!
Grace & peace,
Andrew
