This week hasn't gone according to plan!

I know that I'm not the only one in our church community who will reflect on the last seven days and come to the same conclusion. From the small and the frustrating ways that reality doesn't meet our expectations right through to very significant and potentially life-altering situations, for quite a few this week is one that 'hasn't gone according to plan'. On Monday our nation will pause to remember the sacrifice of many men and women in wartime so that we can experience the peace and the freedom we enjoy today.

On this ANZAC Day, we remember the triumphs and tragedies of war whilst also witnessing them, in almost real-time, continuing to take place in Ukraine as well as many other conflicts around the world. For many of us, the violence and horror of war no longer feel as abstract as they once did when we can see bombs being dropped and mass graves being discovered via the internet moments after they've happened. Sometimes we can think that mission is something that happens 'over there' in other places and amongst other people. Or we can think that mission is separate from regular church life of seeing believers mature as followers of Jesus.

But Jesus sees no distinction. […]
